Membership Steps

Rotary is a global community of more than 1.2 million members in over 45,000 clubs worldwide. It builds connections across borders while addressing the needs of local communities. Membership in Rotary and Rotaract clubs takes place through an invitation and in accordance with each club's own membership process.

It All Begins with Getting to Know Each Other…

Joining Rotary is about much more than completing an application form. The process is built on mutual introductions, getting to know Rotary and the club, sharing common values, and a willingness to work together.

Each Rotary club manages its membership process according to its own practices. However, the main steps are generally similar.

1. Initial Contact and Introduction

People interested in Rotary connect with a Rotary club in their area.

This first contact may take place:

  • Through an existing Rotary member.

  • By being invited to a club meeting.

  • Through participation in a project or event.

  • By reaching out through the club's communication channels.

2. Participation and Observation

Candidates are invited to become more familiar with the club's activities by attending:

  • Club meetings.

  • Service projects.

  • Social events.

This stage is important both for candidates to discover Rotary culture and get to know the club, and for club members to become better acquainted with the candidate.

3. Evaluation and Candidacy Process

Following the introduction and communication process between the candidate and the club, a membership evaluation takes place.

  • Club members are invited to share their views about the candidate.

  • The evaluation is conducted in accordance with the club's own membership procedures.

  • If the candidate is considered suitable, the candidacy process moves forward.

4. Membership Approval and Acceptance

Once the club's relevant procedures have been completed and the necessary approvals obtained, membership is finalized.

The new member becomes part of the club and the wider Rotary family. Membership marks the beginning of an active journey of participation in projects, meetings, and club activities, guided by Rotary's values.

What Matters Throughout the Process?

  • Open communication, mutual respect, and compatibility.

  • A spirit of volunteerism and a desire to serve the community.

  • Willingness to dedicate time to club activities.

  • Embracing Rotary's values and ethical principles.

  • Being open to collaboration and different perspectives.

“Joining Rotary is one step; that step marks a new beginning toward achieving more together.”
